Need a Houseboat Door

by Nancy
(Buffalo, NY)

A typical houseboat door, on an exterior sliding track.

A typical houseboat door, on an exterior sliding track.

How and where to find houseboat doors? I have a 1967 Nautaline houseboat, and the door has to be replaced.

It's an aluminum door which is 6' high, by 30" wide, on an exterior sliding track that needs to be replaced.

Does anyone know where I can buy a new door? It can be either aluminum or vinyl, it doesn't matter.

Thanks, Nancy.

Well Nancy, I understand your dilemma, since I also had a damaged houseboat door that needed to be replaced.

However the chances of finding an exact duplicate to your door is relatively slim, so possibly the next best thing would be to take the it to a aluminum door/window repair center.

They can surely repair or replace whatever items that are broken or damaged, and as a bonus, probably do it much cheaper than buying another replacement door.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about their houseboat door repair experiences.

Fiberglass Houseboat Doors - [common problem]
by: roger

Nancy, a friend of mine just replaced a door on his houseboat. He made the door using fiberglass panels that he purchased at local hardware store, and if you can't do the work yourself, a local handyman should be able to do the job.
