Interior Houseboat Upgrades - remodeling cabinets, furniture ...

by Stephen
(Texas)

Upgrading the interior houseboat furniture.

Upgrading the interior houseboat furniture.

Looking at upgrades to the interior houseboat furniture, cabinets, and atmosphere. I have a 1983 Harbor Master houseboat that I live on.

I bought it used and would like to make some interior upgrades like furniture, cabinets, etc... I'd like to try and give the inside a "newer" look... just for a change of atmosphere.

Any suggestions on where I can shop around for these upgrades?
Thanks, Stephen.

Well Stephen, congratulations on your Harbor Master, and on living aboard. I can understand your dilemma since my wife is constantly wanting to move things around and change the ambiance. Good thing that she has more decorative skills than I have :)

When it comes to furniture and cabinet upgrades or remodeling on a houseboat, I found that some great ideas and concepts can come from your friends and family members. Once you get a concept or color scheme, it makes finding the appropriate items much easier.

As to where to purchase furniture, you will most likely find the best value from your local furniture retailers. Just remember to measure twice first, since size measurements in a houseboat can be deceiving.

Just remember that on a houseboat, everyone seems to gather in one location, so try and get comfortable furniture that encourages a relaxed atmosphere.

As to cabinets, this is trickier since houseboat wall and floors are not all square and equal. You may get away with cabinets from your local Home Depot or the sort, if not you may find that some custom cabinets makers maybe needed.

I hope that you solve your situation, and if do, please take some before and after pictures, this way you can post your tips and results. I am sure many of our readers would love to hear about them.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about their houseboat upgrading and remodeling experiences. Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found near the bottom of this page.
