Houseboat problems with mouse, rats, mice, rodents ....

When it comes to houseboat damage protection, is there any repellents to protect from mice, rats, mouse, or rodents on boats?

I was curious if anyone has any good mice repellents they use during winter storage? I never have had a problem during storage until this year. All the food is removed but am afraid they will start ripping into the furniture looking for bedding.

I have heard that "Bounce" dryer sheets work but am a little skeptical. If anyone had any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Tim from Iowa

Well Tim, thanks for bringing up a common problem with some of the houseboats around the country.

When it comes to ridding a boat of animals, vermin, rats, etc, you will find the following article of interest to you:

Mouse, Rats, Mice on your Houseboats?

For folks that are dealing with others types of unwanted guests on their house boats, you will likely want to read the following page:

Unwanted Houseboat Guests like Bird, Duck Feces

Again, sorry to hear about your rodent problem, yet by following the tips in the Rats article, I am sure that your problem will be a thing of the past.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers and visitors will share and post comments about their houseboat mice problems, tips, and experiences. Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found near the bottom of this page.

Thanks again for sharing, IAN from all-about-houseboats

Rodent ridding
by: Dan

My father (10 yr boater), uses cut up bars of Irish Spring bars of soap laid out on paper plates throughout the boat and has never had a problem in the last nine years.

Unwanted Houseboat Guests - use sonic repellers
by: Greg H.

I am not sure what they are actually called, but we use 2 or 3 of the sonic repellers (they plug into any outlet) and we have not had a single problem.

We use them at home in our basement and garage as well, and we previously have had chipmunk issues in the past. They are safe and humane!

Raccoons on houseboats
by: Ann

I had a horrible time with raccoons breaking into my houseboat this summer. They went as far as ripping out my window screens to get in. Every weekend, I was in for some type of surprise.

Finally, I decided to fight back! I went to a Bass Pro Shop and got fox urine. Foxes are a natural predator of raccoons. I just sprinkled a few drops around my dock area, top of my boat, and the front door.

It worked like a charm!!!! No more raccoons.
