Building pontoon house boats with plastic pontoons.

Any idea on building pontoon house boats with plastic pontoons? I am interested to build my own houseboat, and I wish to use plastic pontoons. I would prefer that the pontoon sections would fit in to each other to get the size I want.

I figure the plastic would be light weight and easy to maintain, and being able to easily connect them together would simplify the construction process. Do you know of any company which makes pontoons out of plastic?

Thanks, Grant.

Well Grant, I think your idea of building a pontoon house boat with plastic pontoons makes good sense. There is definitely some advantages for using them.

Plastic or a high impact modular float system, makes for easy and simple maintenance, no corrosion, lightweight, easily built, and easily repaired or replaced.

You can have a look at a few articles on our site about plastic pontoons.

The one company that comes to mind for plastic pontoons for houseboats would be Pontoonz, Modular Float Systems and I think there are in your neighborhood.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about their plastic pontoon houseboat building experiences. Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found near the bottom of this page.

Some upfront info about plasticpontoons.com
by: Jim Brown

I visited Shelby at his location concerning plasticpontoons.com for I am very interested in his pontoons. He was cordial and offered me his personal advice concerning my project. He also offered me a money back guarantee on his products.

His pontoons offer more speed and efficiency than any I have seen. They allow smaller marine engines to be used giving savings on fuel cost. One exceedingly vocal person bought 2nd or 3rd hand pontoons and they appear to have been home modified by him or someone before him.

Shelby offered to help him in anyway he could and even offered to buy these used pontoons as well but he has not received any man to man communication from this person who prefers to bad mouth a distinguished businessman whom he has not bought any product from.

I can't help but wonder if this man is attacking plasticpontoons.com to make himself look better and to put the blame for his own failed project. He may have little or no education in nautical matters and this failure may be affecting his self esteem. Like I previously said, I can't help but wonder why he would rather attack than accept a really professional offer to reconcile this matter.

I can only conclude that if Shelby's products are bought new and used as they are intended to be used there should be little or no problem with them. "The hardest thing in the world to do is to admit that you are wrong."

Yours Truly, Jim Brown
