Course How To

Sundance houseboat

Hello fellow houseboat lovers

I just purchase a 1984 Sundance houseboat. The house had only two owners and in great shape, I’m attempting to find a manual and specifications for the house boat. Most important the max weight allowed for the hull.

My understanding is the Sundance came with the option to enclose the lower deck, so I’ll assume the hull is made to handle that extra weight as I want to enclose the lower deck which is a 16’ x 1/2’ space.

The second weight related improvement is to have the hull filled with marine floatation foam that is water proof and used in commercial barge applications.

I’d greatly appreciate if anyone has access to the specification for this house barge or any advise related to this model.

Thank you.

Anthony

Adding foam doesn't mean you can add weight!
by: Bruce

Adding foam inside pontoons just adds weight does not give extra flotation value. If you hole the pontoon it will keep it floating. Most pontoons are divided into compartments if you hole one section you don't sink just maybe list pack to repair centre.
