How to update or remodel houseboat interior paneling?

We are thinking of remodeling and updating the interior walls in our houseboat. What can we use to update the paneling in our houseboat? I do not want brown paneling.

My camper has nice slick walls like wall paper. It has a very nice pattern on it. I would love to have it in my houseboat.

Any ideas on where to find something like it. Thanks, Phyllis.

Phyllis, glad to hear that you've made the decision to update your houseboat interior. Since we don't see your "camper walls" to better understand what you mean by slick walls, we will try and guide you the best we can.

There's an interesting article on updating & remodeling houseboat interiors that may help you.

I have seen many house boats with paneling walls that have been painted and that come out looking very nice. Just be sure to use a TSP powder product to properly clean and prepare the surface. You may want to use a primer coat, before applying your final finishing coat of paint.

You will find that the easiest and most cost effective ways to gather ideas for updating houseboat interiors is to use your local "home renovation centers" in your area. They have a wide range of different alternatives to help you remodel just about any interior.

If you get a chance, try and take some "before & after pictures" to post here, this way your experiences will help many other house boaters in the same situation.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about their updating houseboat interior experiences. Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found at the bottom of this page.

Thanks again for sharing, IAN from all-about-houseboats

Renovation of a Gibson houseboat

Any idea on parts for the inside and outside. Not to sure how far I will go, but it will need some fiberglass and motor work.

Thanks, Tommy

Bead board
by: Anonymous

We actually used white bead board and went directly over top of existing panels. You need to make sure window frames either will still go together or you need to cut around them.
