New York Houseboats - Great South Bay of Long Island, New York, USA

Houseboat Photos - nothing like a Great South Bay sunset
Not being from "lake country", we are the boating exception here in New York. Our Gibson 37' Sport Series houseboat nicely accomodates my wife, 2 children (7 and 9 years of age) and dog well for our boating activities.
Wherever we go, we are met by people who are curious and envious about the houseboating lifestyle. People are always impressed by the amount of space or room on our boat. Everyone wants a houseboat but not many people have them here.
We love where we are because there are so many safe, convenient and close to our dock locations to "drop the hook" for day trips and entertaining, as well as places to "plug-in" for overnight family vacations and adventures.
We can safely travel from the west end of the Great South Bay to Montauk on the east end and to our barrier beach islands - Fire and Jones Beach Islands, each of which, to me, is like the Florida Keys during the summer months.
As we look back at the summer of 2011, we have used our boat more then in the past and we have had many family moments to look back upon in years to come.
All of the above reasons are why we love houseboating in "our area".

Reply - AnswerWell Ken, I know what you mean about how people love the space and room that houseboats offer. And I am sure that your Gibson is the ideal boat for the area, handles well in waves and has plenty of cruising power.
And like you said, sometimes you don't have to be in the Florida Keys to enjoy yourselves :)
Lastly, hopefully some of our readers and visitors will share and post comments about their favorite houseboating areas and experiences.
Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found near the bottom of this page.
Thanks again for sharing, IAN from all-about-houseboats
