Well, if you're interested in houseboating around Houston Texas, or in the Kemah area, than I would recommend that you have a look at our Texas section of our Houseboating World Wide page. You will find a listing of some of the marinas in the region.

To answer your question about what to do if "a hurricane is headed towards the marina" with a little humor, than I would respond by saying, "run for cover to a secure location". After the hurricane passes, find the telephone number of you houseboat insurance policy and give your agent a call.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about their Houston Texas houseboat experiences.

Texas Marinas for Houseboats
by: Anonymous

Lake Conroe is one hour north of Houston. Waterpoint Marina is adding 24 new 50' slips and can accommodate houseboats up to 100'. It's a fun marina with restaurants and shopping next door.

Houseboating in Houston
by: Anonymous

I have been looking into living full time on a houseboat again, however I recently moved to Houston and not familiar with the area.

I have been looking into the area and have yet to find any marinas with any house boats or even ones where people are living in.

Any suggestions? Locations? Marinas?

Houseboat Damage - hurricane Ike
by: Anonymous

I lived on my 36' sailboat on Clear Lake (Galveston Bay) when Ike roared through. I tripled every line, added chafe guards, put out all of my fenders, rigged a floating boom across the opening of my slip, and put everything below that could be removed.

I HAD ZERO DAMAGE! None at all. (of course, I couldn't sail until they pulled the Lexus out of the fairway behind my slip!)

Very few boats in my marina had significant damage. I am aware of a large houseboat at Blue Dolphin marina that faired well.

You need a marina that is protected by land, not a wooden breakwater, or even a thin rock jetty.

run !!
by: beached guy

Ian LOL !!
Yep, running is the word. The problem is that there are no places to run in that location with the boat. I would talk with other houseboat owners in those Marinas and find out if they have any solution besides the above :-)).

Buying then shipping it to Belize
by: Steven

Is there any houseboats for sale moored in the gulf in a marina? And are there companies that could transport it down to Belize?
