Great Loop

I am considering doing the great loop in a 44' Kingscraft. Does anyone have any actual experience with such a trip. Most of the information I've read says houseboats are not suited for some legs of the trip, particularly the Gulf crossing, a part around NJ/NY and the Great Lakes. Any thoughts?
