Capri houseboats - a rare house boat model?

Capri houseboats - a rare house boat model?

Searching for Capri houseboats, and has anybody heard of a Capri house boat? You don't list Capri houseboats as a manufacturer.

I found one boat on Lake Allatoona north of Atlanta that was a Capri house boat. I think it was a 1968. It was the same style but not in good condition.

Our boat (1967 Capri) has been surveyed and is in excellent condition. We are trying to sell it and there are no comparables.

Therefore we are pricing her based on what we paid for it and then adding a total, repaint top to bottom, new gel coat, new marine head etc...

I know they manufactured houseboats because we found this one other boat. How can I find out anything about the manufacturer?

Any help would be appreciated, Sylvia.

Well Sylvia, welcome to the houseboat forums, and sorry to hear about the rarity of information on the Capri houseboats.

Unfortunately, I personally have not heard of the Capri model until you submitted this post.

Hopefully one of readers who has any information on this boat can share any tips or ideas for you.

Possibly they only manufactured them for a short period of time, and then were bought out by a competitor.

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about any Capri houseboat information or experiences. Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found near the bottom of this page.

Thanks again for sharing, IAN from all-about-houseboats

Capri Houseboats
by: William Jewell

My father was VP at Consolidated Marine that manufactured Capri Houseboats, 1967 -1969, most were sold to a vacation houseboat rental group in Miami. They were made in Cocoa Florida, we kept one behind our house in Cocoa Beach. Unique boats!

I own a Capri houseboat on Lake Altoona. I don't know if it's the one you referred to but the boat is in good condition. I just bought it about three months ago and gave $7500 for it.

The previous owner had not taken it out in about three years and I am having to do some maintenance and upgrading, but all in all I am please with it as it runs great.

Capri XL Houseboat History
by: Betty Spring Storey

Hello! My father Dee Spring designed and built Capri Houseboats in Atlanta in the 1960's. He first started building them at 2505 Buford Hwy at his company Dee Spring Marine.

Once he realized he needed more room to build bigger boats, he moved the houseboat division to Roswell, Ga.

In July 1969 he entered his 43ft Capri XL Avenger in the 1st Florida Ocean Race Week! He won with ease and I have the silver trophy he won. Sports Illustrated had a great article about the race in their July 28, 1969 issue.

Daddy passed away in 1990, but people that knew him said he was the most honest business man they ever met.

We have been refurbishing a 1968 Capri 47 ft on Laurel lake for the past 3 years. We are new to boating and loving every minute.

I would also like to know comparable sales price since we are almost done & ready to move on to our next project. Just love the ole boat and not sure we are ready to part with it!

Capri houseboat

Yes! My father had a custom 50' Capri made for our family in 1965. We kept our boat at the Allatoona Yacht Club. The hull was a sea blue.

Best times and memories on the FRANCES B. We heard that the boat was damaged after a boat close to it's slip exploded.

Hope this helps.

I own a 1969 39' Capri. It is on lake Quachita in Arkansas. Mine has a 3.8L V6 which I am told is a Buick. Any information you have on these houseboats would be greatly appreciated.

The history of Capri Houseboats
by: collier_marine_1900@yahoo.com

Capri and Capri XL houseboats were made in Atlanta, Georgia during the 1960's by Col. Dee Springs. He was a boat dealer that made one at a time in the rear of his service shop at the intersevtion of I-85 and Cheshire Bridge Road.

The vessel's hulls were made of steel. There is not much of a market for steel houseboats because no marinas in the Atlanta are allowing new steel bottomed houseboats to come into their marinas.
