Small Trailerable Houseboats + Kids = the best houseboat vacations ever!

by Glenn
(Australia)

Trailerable houseboats are great for those holiday vacations.

Trailerable houseboats are great for those holiday vacations.

Small trailerable houseboats, combined with some kids, and you've got a recipe for the best houseboat vacations that you could ever imagine.

Here's a story about one of our unforgettable houseboat adventures that we planned at the last minute. Here's our story:

The Christmas holidays were coming up real quick, so I thought I had better do something. I decided to go down to the Shoalhaven River, about 3 hours drive from Sydney for a week long houseboat trip with my 9 year old son Logan.

My little houseboat goes on a trailer easily, so it's not a problem towing it anywhere. We arrived Sunday night about 10 pm and launched at the local boat ramp.

My son Logan was already tired as he normally goes to sleep around 8:30, so he jumped into bed and crashed out before I even got 2 minutes down the river.

We found a good spot to anchor for the night, and after a bit of fishing I went to bed as well.

The next day we headed up-stream, but there must have been 500 water skiers all over the place. They did not stop until 8 pm that night. All day we felt like we were in a washing machine because of the their waves.

So after a good nights sleep we went back to the boat ramp, loaded the boat back on the trailer and headed north up to the Port Hacking River.

We launched the houseboat and stayed there for another 5 days. We spent our time just fishing and swimming (mind you it's summer in Australia at the moment) so we had long hot days, warm nights, and plenty of fun all week.

It's amazing how kids enjoy the simple things in life, especially when you get them out on the lake. The just love to swim, fish, eat, sleep, and just do all the things that kids like to do.

It was a great holiday vacation, and as you can see by the photos, we used our new 8 foot inflatable dinghy to explore the surroundings, and you can see that it flies with Logan in the boat.

The other photo is of our small trailerable houseboat out at anchor, with our new dinghy tied up off the stern. We were having the times of our lives, and it was such a beautiful place to anchor out.

We're already looking forward to our next houseboat trip together.

Regards, Glenn.

Well Glenn, what a wonderful story, and thank you for sharing it. I'm sure that it will be memories that you will all cherish forever.

I can still remember to this day, when my dad took me out houseboating for the first time, little did I know at the time, that it would change me forever.

I would imagine that there's plenty of parents or kids out there,
that have some great stories or memories about their first houseboating adventures?

I'm sure that you both likely fall asleep at night with a smile on your faces, thinking about the good times you had on your trip.

One last thought, you mentioned fishing, however there's no fish pictures. Hmmm, most fisherman like to brag about the big one that got away.... :)

Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share their stories and memories about their unforgettable houseboat trips or adventures. Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found near the bottom of this page.
