Ideas for Lake Cumberland Houseboat Rentals

by Bob Leiter
(Michigan)

Lake Cumberland Houseboat Rentals

Lake Cumberland Houseboat Rentals

Any ideas for Lake Cumberland Houseboat Rentals in July or August?

Two families are considering a houseboat rental vacation. Each family will be grand parents, kids (late 30s) and grand kids (5 through teens) one family would be 9 people and the other 8. We will get two houseboats.

We are planning for July or August because of school. We own boats now, and would have no problem with the operation of the house boats.

What suggestions would you have?

Can we get jet ski's?

What itinerary would you suggest?

Can we stop at locations with restaurants?

Should we use the provisioning option?

Anything else that you can suggest?

Be sure to bring plenty!
by: Conley Bottom Feeder

I might also add that you will be in "dry" country. So if any of the adult party plans on imbibing (drinking), make sure you bring more than enough, as the nearest beverages will be an hour drive away (Tennessee to the South, Lexington area to the North).

Regardless, you and your family are in for a treat! In addition, we also go late in August (the weekend before Labor Day) as that is the first weekend of the off season rental rates. Enjoy!

Advice on houseboat rentals
by: HURRICANE BOB

1. Do use the provisioning as it saves a lot of humping, provisions are not only bought for you but neatly put away on board.

2. The following Lake Docks I have personally eaten at, and the area of the lake I most visit. Mid lake, Jamestown Marina, full sit down, good variety and good food. Near the dam, about 13 miles from Jamestown, is Grider Hill, great food, great view, but a little walk up the hill. Allegator II up Wolfe Creek, about 9 miles from Jamestown, snack bar, but good fast meals. North of Jamestown about 22 miles, Conley bottoms Lighthose Cafe.

3. Try August vice July, the lake will be less crowded. Avoid 4th of July unless you love waterborne traffic jams and lots of wakes.

4. Most places that rent houseboats also have jet skis to rent. But do consider renting off the lake and maybe trailering in from home. Do the cost comparison, and then decide based on convenience vs savings.

Hope this helps some, Hurricane Bob.

Lake Cumberland's Newly Exposed Playground!
by: Deb

Lake Cumberland is beautiful, especially now! The shoreline is more accessible with the current lake levels. You can explore the newly exposed shorelines and take advantage of the natural "playground".

Waterway Adventures rents houseboats out of two different marinas on Lake Cumberland, Burnside and Beaver Creek. They have a fantastic website. I visited the Lake in October as the leaves were in peak color. What a fantastic trip!

Plenty to do on Lake Cumberland
by: IAN from www.all-about-houseboats.com

You'll find that there's plenty of activities going on Lake Cumberland in July/August.

You can and should rent jet skis, since the older kids will really enjoy getting out for a quick ride :)

If you are tired of eating in restaurants, you can use the BBQ's that are on the rental houseboats, they generally have big models installed.

For a bit of entertainment, have a look at our Top 10 Party Ideas, it could be a great hit with the families.

Hope this all helps, and I'm sure others will add comments also.

Enjoy your holidays, IAN...
