Houseboat Plans Layouts - maximize space, storage on house boats
Looking at houseboat building plans and layouts, and how to maximize space and storage on house boats. Is it a good idea to have the hallway running down one side of the boat?
Does the hall need to be down the center of the craft, or can I put it running along the port or starboard side?
I feel it would maximize the space, and allow for larger rooms.
Thanks, Bill.
Reply - AnswerWell Bill, welcome to the houseboat forums, and you have asked a very good question, since many of the houseboat manufacturers are now using the port or starboard hallway to allow maximizing the available space.
If you are designing a houseboat with many smaller bedrooms, than I would recommend using the center hallway floor plan, as it allows you to make a square style room, instead of longer rectangular rooms.
Both designs are good, and it ultimately depends on your families needs and space requirements. I find that when you run the hallway down the port or starboard side, you can take advantage of the windows and sun light to give you a brighter appearance or ambience.
Lastly, hopefully some of our readers will share and post comments about their tips and experiences with houseboat floor plans and layouts. Feel free to use the "Click here to post comments." link found near the bottom of this page.
