TINKERTOY - a Coleman Saling houseboat

TINKERTOY - a Coleman Saling houseboat

I bought a 1969 Coleman Saling Houseboat last year which is in excellent shape...other than a few tweaks here and there and of course, giving it a touch of my own style.

However, I absolutely cannot find ANY information on ANY type of Coleman Saling boats! (and yes, 'Saling' is spelled correctly)
Does anyone know of any sites or articles to find some information about Coleman Saling boats?

Mine has a steel hull and is 38x12...big enough for me and my co-captain feline, Max :) I know an owner's manual would be pushing my luck but it sure would be nice.

Any comments or suggestions are very welcome! This is all new to me, not just on-board living but the entire boating world! YIKES! But hey...so far, so good~ I'm lovin' it! Oh yeah! And the reason I "chose" this manufacturer or model....this was a steal!

Boat factory
by: Lori M

My grandfather worked for the Coleman Boat Factory in Morgantown Ky till they closed. I just stumbled upon this site. What a sweet memory to look back on. The ppl there were always so very nice to me. They truly were like family. Carl Champney was my grandpa known as Champ to everyone.

Information Coleman Saling House Boats
by: Anonymous

Boats made in Morgantown, Ky 42261.
Contact Denzel Coleman, or Mac Coleman in Morgantown.
Saling was their partner.
I worked there for a little while.
They quit House Boats and began building houses in the factory. It houses the county road department now.

Coleman Saling with travelers Gourmet cooktop oven
by: Willie

I’m in search of any information about the Travelers Gourmet propane cooktop oven. I have a 1971 Coleman Saling 12’ x 52’ houseboat, with a Travelers Gourmet cooktop, with the oven above the cooktop, and an exhaust fan above the oven, it is 21" wide and 40" tall.

I need to replace the whole thing but so far have not been able to find any info on travelers Gourmet. Does anyone out there have any info on this?

We bought a 1970 Cole man Saling at Huey’s Marina at Smith. Our family and friends will never forget the time we spent together. We saw it at Bridge Bridge marina in 1999.

1972 Coleman Saling Houseboat
by: Dale Scheler

I have a 1972 Coleman Saling Houseboat. I was having the hull repaired at Bell's Welding when the place burnt down. So it is still sitting there on the commercial trailer, trying to sell both of them together is listed on Craigslist.

Coleman Saling Houseboat

I also was office manager in the office that built the Coleman Saling houseboats. Joan's comments were correct. My husband and I have a Coleman Saling houseboat for sale and ours is a 12' by 47' and was completely refurbished and updated in 2008.

We do not have a manual but do have a brochure with each style of boat. Does yours have the original Princess stove with oven? What kind of engine and generator does yours have?

They were made in Morgantown Kentucky. We just sold one ourselves. There are still two of the owners of the company still living.

I cannot remember their names but there are only a handful for Colemans or Salings in the book for Morgantown Kentucky. That is how we found them.

The one we talked to did not have any literature on them, but he did have answers to any questions that we had. Here's some info:

Previous Tinker Toy owner
by: Patrick

WOW!!!! Tinker Toy is my old boat!! I bought it while in Atlanta, and kept it on Lake Lanier. Brought it to Lake Wylie when I moved here in 1998. Absloutely loved the boat, but my new family did not use it as much as I had hoped.

I know a lot about this boat, but unfortunately, not much about Colemans. I would love to speak with you about Tinker Toy.

Coleman Saling Houseboat
by: Joan Baker

I worked for the company that built your houseboat. They were built in Morgantown, Ky. They went out of the business in 1971 and started building Coleman Homes.

The company was owned by Glendel, David, and Denzil Coleman (all presently living in Morgantown) and the late Lake Saling. I was secretary and got to go preview each boat before it left. Any other information you may probably call Denzil Coleman with any questions about the boat.

I was just curious and wanted to see what I could find on the net. So glad the boat is still around. Good sailing. I do not live in Morgantown now but it is still home to me.
